the GWSJR TOUR mission statement

The GWSJR TOUR mission is to schedule a set of fundraising golf tournaments at various Texas golf courses each year, with the goal of awarding scholarships to assist students with furthering their education, to honor Gary Wayne's memory, and to promote the game of golf as a lifelong sport to 5th - 12th grade students across the State of Texas, thru the use of a unique, and one of a kind, 4-person scramble type golf tournament format, that encourages both teamwork and individual shot making abilities.

The GWSJR TOUR is modeled after the 35-year history of the Gary Wayne Schoen Jr. Annual Memorial Golf Tournament that takes place at Perry Country Club in Hamilton Texas on the last weekend in July each year.  To read more about the Gary Wayne Schoen Jr. Annual Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fund, please visit our website at https://gwsjr.org/

The GWSJR TOUR is about awarding scholarships to Junior Golfers.  The spirit of these tournaments, and those that enter their teams to compete in these tournaments, is about Junior Golfers recruiting their Family and Friends to be on their team and for Family and Friends of a Junior Golfer to encourage and recruit them to be on their team and register for a tournament.  Tournament registrations are tentatively scheduled to open in January 2027.  To pre register for the GWSJR TOUR 2027, please email gwsjrtour@gmail.com and include name, email, cell phone, address, and a message about your team.

The GWSJR TOUR, just like the Gary Wayne Schoen Jr. Annual Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fund, is one big Family.  In order for this tournament series to be successful, especially with 2027 being our inaugural year and launch of the tournament series, we need your support!  Join us on our mission and together we will make an impact on the lives of Junior Golfers across the Great State of Texas!

Tournament Logistics & Supplemental Costs

  • Our goal with tournaments on the GWSJR TOUR Series is to facilitate golf tournaments that are as frictionless as possible, as well as maximizing scholarship awards by cutting down on supplemental costs that can be incurred.
  • Rental golf carts at hosting golf courses is the number one friction point when hosting tournaments.  Some courses will have plenty of rental carts and others will not have enough for demand.  To avoid this issue, we would encourage trailering in your own golf cart(s) for use during the tournaments.  We do not plan at this point to bring in additional rental golf carts to supplement the hosting clubs rental fleet
  • Another area would be food and beverage and whether to bring in catering(lunch) for participating golfers and spectators to supplement the hosting clubs food and beverage counter.  We do not plan at this point to bring in additional food and beverage to supplement the hosting clubs F&B counter
  • To speed up play within the tournaments, we do not plan to offer contests like closest to the pin on Par 3's or longest drive competitions on Par 5's.

Promise Yourself | Christian D. Larson | 1912

aka 'The Optimist Creed' - this was Gary Wayne's favorite Poem and his Personal Mantra

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.  To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.  To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.  To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.  To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.  To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but great deeds.  To live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you.
